Why Learn American Sign Language?

Why Learn American Sign Language?

I am the Co-Author of the guide Enhance Literacy Instruction Using for Signing Time which show how teaching hearing children ASL can improve their vocabulary and increase their performance in literacy.  This guide, Enhancing Literacy Instruction Using Signing Time can be very beneficial.
To read more about the discounted Early Literacy Jump Start Bundle, visit my store @  http://www.signingtimeacademy.com/rwilliams.
My 11 page guide Using Sign Language in the Classroom can be purchased at the same site.  The Signing Time Classroom Edition can be purchased from me for

Here are just a few of the benefits from using American Sign Language with your children:
Children who use sign language may:
   * have less tantrums because they have a hands-on mode of communication, and can use a sign to express their needs and feelings
   * may communicate with signs before they can talk
   * increase their ability to read and understand language
   * read at an earlier age
   * have higher IQ scores
   * Have enhanced literacy skills and increased vocabulary
Children with speech delays, learning disabilities, autism, and other developmental or learning delays can also benefit from exposure to sign language.

American Sign Language
American Sign Language is a real language used by many people, both deaf and hearing.  ASL is the 3rd most used language in the USA.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if your children felt comfortable approaching a deaf child in the park because they knew some American Sign Language?  Learning a new language is a great way to break down barriers between people and unknown cultures.
People all learn in different ways.  Some are more visual, tactile and kinesthetic learners.  These hand-on learners benefit from acquiring a new hands-on language.
